The Royal Palace, known as "Slottet" in Norwegian, serves as the official residence of the Norwegian monarch. Construction began in 1824 under King Charles III John and was completed in 1849, designed by architect Hans Linstow.

The palace is a fine example of neoclassical architecture, featuring a prominent portico with six Ionic columns and a copper roof that has weathered to a distinctive green patina over time. The equestrian statue in front of the palace depicts King Charles III John, who was also King of Sweden and Norway, symbolising the union between the two nations during his reign (1818–1844).

How fabulous is this? This was the first electric billboard in Oslo, first lit the day before Christmas Eve in 1909. The clock was introduced in 1925.

The clock has only been darkened twice, during the war and for a period in 2012 while the clock was restored. The entire construction covers 140 m2 and weighs eight tonnes.
